- SUMMARY
Charles was baptised on 13th July 1655 the son of John Wood, a merchant from the city of York who was also a Lord Mayor of York, and Anne Beane, of whom we know little. Charles was the eldest of 4 children.
Charles followed in his fathers footsteps and became a Merchant and a Freeman of York. On the 3rd Jan 1679 He married Margaret Harrison who came from another York family, at St Olave in York. Margaret gave birth to 2 children, John and Elizabeth, of whom Elizabeth is the significant one to continue this family tree.
Shortly after his children were born, Charles died on the 8th of December 1684, obviously before his time aged 29 (His father out-lived him by 2 decades). Charles is buried in St Michael's Church, Spurriergate in York, along with his parents and they have a family memorial there.
After Charles died, Margaret his wife went on to marry twice more, to Samual Mancklin a merchant and Rev Jonathon Dryden. She died on 1st May 1735.

Record of Charles Wood, son of John Wood lord mayor becoming a Freeman of York, which means probably in 1682 which was when John was Lord Mayor, or the next couple of years before Charles died:
"Charles Wood, merchant, fil. John Wood, Ld. Mayor"

Elizabeth his daughter was born in 1683

He's described as 'Charles Wood of Hollin Hall' in Burke's Peerage:

BUT this is incorrect since it was his son John Wood who bought Hollin Hall in 1717, according to this record:
