  • Notes
    • Margaret Howet married William Brown, and together they had 7 children, of whom John and David are significant to continue this family tree.

Her surname is spelt Howet / Huet / Houit in the birth certificates of 3 of her children, meaning perhaps it was actually Hewitt?

Her husband William Brown was described as a 'gentleman to the Marquess of Tweedale' on her daughter Elizabeth's birth certificate, and was said to have been the private secretary to John Hay, the 4th Marquess of Tweedale who was a Scottish politician. William joined the Jacobite rebellion and was killed at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

Some of Margaret's sons left to live in Denmark after this, but Margaret continued to live in Scotland, and died aged 76.
