- SUMMARY
Harriett / Harriott Williamson was born to Trifina Sargent and James Williamson in 1796 in the East End of London.
She married Thomas Allen Sheppard, a musician also from the local area in 1815 when she was 19 and he was 21. Because she was under 21 she was married with the consent of her father. Harriett and Thomas remained living at Fox's Lane in Shadwell near the Thames probably all their married life. We have records for three sons born to them with ornate names - Alfred Horatio, Frederick Adolphus and Theodore Augustus. Frederick is the significant one for carrying on this family tree.
We known little else about their lives together, but must assume it was a hard life given the historical time in a growing city and living in a working class area which has always traditionally been a bit of London where immigrant communities strive to establish themselves. The life of a musician also was probably fairly precarious, relying on the local musical halls or private teaching.
Harriett died early, aged 32, in 1828 with the cause of death being written as 'child bed', which we have to assume means child birth. If it was death during pregnancy or childbirth it would have been 9 years after her last born son had been born.
She was buried in Stepney, just over a mile from where she was born.
Her husband Thomas re-married, probably after about 10 years, since his second wife Elizabeth gave birth to her first child by him around 1840.
