  • Notes
    • Jane was a crofters wife in the north east Highlands of Scotland. Her life would have been hard, living in a small one room blackhouse and helping her husband on the land tending the crops and animals.

Her son's records which mention her:

Helen's parents are recorded as William MacKay, Merchant, and Christy MacKay, maiden name MacLeod.

      record of Death 1843, Dornoch:
13th Feb, Jane Murray, Relict of John Ross - 'at the foot of Lydenhall wood [Lydeshall wood]'
no age or cause of death recorded.

Is this correct? She isn't mentioned as deceased in son's marriage record, and why record her death under her maiden name?
